The 2014 Chevy Sonic Reviews

The 2014 Chevy Sonic is Chevrolet's newest subcompact car, and has proven far more popular than the unloved Aveo it replaced. Now in its third model year, with a handful of updates to infotainment and safety systems, it's offered as a five-door hatchback and a four-door sedan.Equipped with the right engine, it's one of our favorites in the segment. The 2014 Sonic competes well with the Ford Fiesta--itself updated for 2014--the aging Honda Fit, the Hyundai Accent, the Nissan Versa sedan and Versa Note hatchback, and the Toyota Yaris.

Bracket creep in car sizes means the Sonic is almost the size of some "compacts" 10 years ago, but it's considerably shorter than the Cruze four-door sedan above it. The sedan and hatchback models share the same wheelbase, front styling, and front doors, but differ considerably behind the center pillar. The sedan's rear doors are conventional, but those of the hatchback have their handles hidden in a black trim panel--purportedly to give it more of a coupe look. Inside, the classic Chevy twin-cockpit design sports edgy but practical styling and a high quality of materials and finishes.
